FIFA Women’s World Cup | Former Reggae Boyz captain Gardner sends encouragement to Girlz

first_imgFormer Reggae Boyz captain and Bolton Wanderers star Ricardo ‘Bibi’ Gardner, has sent encouragement to Jamaica’s national senior women’s team, ahead of their FIFA Women’s World Cup match against Italy at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims on Friday.  Gardner, who played 111 games for the national senior team, including all three at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where he provided the assist for Robbie Earle’s historic goal against Croatia in their opening game of the competition.  Gardner posted a video to social media, underlining the country’s support for the team and encouraging the Reggae Girlz to keep giving their best at the tournament. “I just want to take the time out to let you know that myself and the entire Jamaica is rooting for you and we just want to wish you all the best for the rest of the tournament,” Gardner said. “We want you guys to know that we are seeing all the effort that you guys are putting in and we only ask that you continue to go out there and try to execute the coach’s plan to the best of your ability.” Jamaica lost 3-0 to Brazil in their opening game in Grenoble on Sunday and will play Australia in their last group game next Tuesday.  “Thank you for putting smiles on so many faces that you don’t even know and touching so many hearts all across the world. We just want to tell you to continue to strike hard, continue to believe and continue to work hard and trust each other,” he added. “From my heart to yours, Jamaica land we love. Big up to all the coaches and coaching staff and the entire Reggae Girlz, continue to make us proud.”last_img
